![]() Just close to Manila is Wawa Dam in Rodriguez (formerly Montalban). It's approximately 20-30 mins by car from Batasan Pambansa plus 10 mins by foot from the road. A convenient public transportation is FX/van ride from Cubao. The mountains are quite rocky. The trail going to the other side of the dam is carved out from these rocks. Crossing this narrow path is enough to send chills to my spine, yet I have to go through it together with the locals carrying sacks, lumbers and some thrill seekers on motor bikes. They say that Bernardo Carpio was trapped in these mountains. You may swim in the dam or on the waters flowing out of it. Dipping into the water may not be for all since its quality is not that good. Just a few minutes walk from the dam is a cave home to countless bats. You may need to ask for permission to enter. Some people bring umbrella when they come in since it's literally raining of bat droppings. There's a marking in the cave indicating that "Gringo was here" which I'm thinking might be Senator Honasan, carved during the times he was trying to evade capture.
